Background
CEO and Founder of The Risk Project, LLC, a next-generation risk analysis, research and consulting firm, focused on helping businesses leverage uncertainty to accelerate growth and profitability. Formerly, Managing Director and Global Head of Marsh’s Risk Consulting resiliency business. Led a global team that conducted extensive research, worked with clients and partnered with underwriters and other participants in insurance markets. Named 2017 “Thought Leader of the Year” by the Global Supply Chain Resiliency Council, “World’s Best Supply Chain Risk Consulting Provider” by Global Finance and Top 25 Information Manager by Information Management magazine.
Prior to Marsh, served as Partner in the Information Assurance and Continuity Services group at Booz Allen Hamilton; Risk Services Research Director at Gartner Group; Chief Information Security Officer at Chase Manhattan Bank; and Executive Director of the Office of Business Continuity and Security at The Prudential.
Appointed by the United States Secretary of Commerce as a founding member of the Advisory Committee on Supply Chain Competitiveness. Also, appointed as a Senior Research Fellow to the R. H. Smith School at the University of Maryland and Advisor to the World Economic Forum Global Risk Network. Worked with the center on a cyber supply chain risk project for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and received a U.S. Secret Service commendation for my work on disaster response following the September 11 attacks. Founding member of the Global Supply Chain Resiliency Council.
Authored business management books on risk: (1) “The Uncertainty Advantage: Leadership Lessons for Turning Risk Outside-In,” Archway ,2017; (2) “Single Point of Failure: The Ten Essential Laws of Supply Chain Risk Management,” Wiley, 2009; and (3) “At Your Own Risk: Creating a Risk-Conscious Culture to Meet the Challenge of Business Change,” Wiley, 2008. Also a Contributing Author for “Supply Chain Disruptions: Theory and Practice of Managing Risk,” Chapter 12, Springer, 2012.
Lectured on risk management to industry executives and graduate level students at MIT’s Center for Logistics and Transportation; the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland; the Desautels School of Management at McGill University; the Stern School of Business at New York University, and the John Cook School of Business at St. Louis University. Featured presenter at the World Economic Forum/Global Risk Network, Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), World Customs Organization (WCO), National Institute of Standards (NIST), National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), and Risk Management Institution of Australia (RMIA keynote).
